As I Have Experienced It…

From Nixon to now:  When the Republicans were in power they spent billions on overpriced ships, planes, hammers, and toilet seats.  Their friends own the companies that rip off our government. At the same time our pay and benefits eroded.

When the Democrats were in power they spent money on the troops by giving us pay raises and cost of living increases.  Jimmy Carter, a real veteran and a real christian, gave us the largest pay raise in history. If you want to support the troops, my experience in the last 36 years tells me to vote Democratic.

Here is an under reported story:

McCain’s attack on vets

His respectful rhetoric isn’t matched by his votes.
By Edward Humes
May 30, 2008
MORE THAN A FEW people have been puzzled by Sen. John McCain’s dogged opposition to the updated GI Bill of Rights now before Congress. The dissonance between McCain’s military-man image and his actions on this issue have introduced a jarring note to his presidential aspirations — and have highlighted the shoddy treatment many Iraq war veterans have received.
FOR THE RECORD:
GI Bill: A May 30 Op-Ed article about the GI Bill said the 1944 bill offered full benefits to any veteran who served 90 days. The bill paid for 12 months of college or vocational school if a veteran served 90 days, with additional benefits, up to 48 months of school, for each month of military service. —

Why would a Vietnam War veteran and former prisoner of war, a man who is personally acquainted with the difficulties vets can face in returning to civilian life, join President Bush in opposing a popular bipartisan bill to support the troops? Isn’t fixing the education benefit in the bill — one that has shortchanged far too many veterans for years — a political no-brainer in an election year? The 75 senators who recently voted for it certainly thought so. Over the Memorial Day weekend, Sen. Barack Obama expressed some well-timed astonishment at McCain’s opposition, and the two have been feuding about it ever since. The media and pundits seem perplexed, collectively suggesting: That’s not the John McCain we know.

Which is true: It is the John McCain they don’t know.

recumbent solar bike imageThis is a Recumbent Solar Bike.  Brilliant!

A solar-powered bicycle which allows riders to go faster and use less leg power has been invented.

The bright yellow device, named "Cycle Sol", operates like a normal pedal cycle but has a canopy lined with solar cells overhead.

When the user pedals in the sunshine the rays charge a battery that powers an electric motor in the back wheel, propelling the bike at speeds up to 15mph.

It also lowers the resistance in peddling to make it easier for the rider to cycle up hills.

And the handle bars are positioned on either side of the seat rather than at the front so you can lean back for a comfortable ride.

The bicycle has been invented by Miroslav Miljevic as an eco-friendly form of transport.

Mr Miljevic, based at Z & Co Design in London, says the motor can be fully charged while the recumbent bike is chained up outside on a sunny day, but if it is not sunny, it can be plugged into electricity mains.

Although only at the concept stage at the moment, Mr Miljevic hopes to produce it once he has found a manufacturer.

He said: "These days solar cells are pretty good at picking up the lowest amount of light so it should still work when the skies are cloudy."

He added: "At the moment the Cycle Sol is just a concept but hopefully I will be able to build it and manufacture it in the future.

"I believe it is just what the modern day commuter needs - it helps you along your way while also being kind to the environment."

Ministers to Defy I.R.S. by Endorsing Candidates

Defying a federal tax law they consider unjust, 33 ministers across the country will take to their pulpits this Sunday and publicly endorse a candidate for president.

They plan to then send copies of their sermons to the Internal Revenue Service, hoping to provoke a challenge to a law that bars religious organizations and other nonprofits that accept tax-deductible contributions from involvement in partisan political campaigns.

Christian, Please!

Conservative evangelicals see Sarah Palin as one of them

After John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his running mate, Caroline Newman was delirious as she dialed Shelby County Republican Party headquarters.

Despite lukewarm feelings for McCain, Newman, 45, had resolved to vote for the Republican senator.

But with Palin on the ticket, the Germantown homemaker turned diehard McCain fan overnight and now spends nearly every moment campaigning for the GOP nominee.

Newman and other local evangelicals have found in Alaska Gov. Palin what neither presidential candidate had offered — someone in line with their Christian values.

Please, do the world a favor and go to church and pray on November 4th.  Do not do that 4 letter word. Vote.

Sunday

This morning I woke up feeling pretty good after my workout yesterday.  I went out to my shop and cleaned and straightened it up.  Then I swept out the garage.  Next, I aired the tires on the Bachetta Strada recumbent road bike.  The Bachetta is much easier to pedal than the Cannondale recumbent bicycle.  If the cool weather holds I’d like to go on a long ride on the Bachetta tomorrow.  I’m thinking of riding 13 miles to physical therapy and then 13 miles home.

My Bachetta Strada on the Big Dam Bridge in Little Rock.

There is an organized ride over the Big Dam Bridge next weekend.

My doc let me get out of wearing my shoulder immobilizer rig.  My physical therapy is going well.  I still have a lot of pain and discomfort but I don’t have to take any narcotic pain suppressors.  I still tire easily.  I am trying to be more active each day.-

Yesterday,  I got the Cannondale recumbent bicycle out tof the shed and made it road worthy.  That bit of effort tired me out but I really wanted to go for a ride.  I filled two stainless steel water bottles and headed out.  At about the two mile mark there is a steep and long hill.  I stopped to get a drink of water.  I must have drank too fast as I started to hurl.  I turned around and went the two miles back home where I did it again.

I cleaned up and relaxed for a bit and then I got mad.  I got back on the bike and I had a wonderful 22 mile ride through the forest. There was much huffing and puffing up the hills but it felt wonderful.  I did 26 miles for the day.  Dang, that felt good.

This is a picture of the Cannondale recumbent on a trip around Horshoe Lake in Arkansas.

How Low Can They Go?

Republican, I mean.

The airlines got billions from the Republican administration after they allowed their planes to crash into America.  The scummy Money market Repugnants got billions of dollars after losing/stealing our retirement money.  The Repugnant scummy mortgage lenders are getting billions after losing/stealing our homes.  The scummy insurance Repugnants are getting billions after losing/stealing our insurance money.

Now the Repugnants want people who are in foreclosure struck from the voting roles.  I wonder how the Repugnants figure people who have been foreclosed upon might vote Democratic?  Oh yeah, we don’t have any money because it was all stolen by the Repugnants.

Loot what the Repugs are trying to do in Detroit and across the country:

Dems file lawsuit to block use of foreclosure lists to bar voters

Democrats accuse GOP of creating the practice, which Republicans insist they have never used.

Gordon Trowbridge / Detroit News Washington Bureau

DETROIT — Democrats and Republicans battled in the media and the courts Tuesday over hotly disputed claims that the GOP could use lists of foreclosed homes to bar voters from the polls in November.

The fight — started by an online publication that reported Macomb County’s GOP chief had discussed such a plan — is just the latest in a decades long battle between Democrats, who accuse Republicans of trying to suppress Democratic votes, and Republicans, who accuse their opponents of vote fraud.

- - - -

Had enough?  I have. Vote out the Repugnants.  Take back some control before it is too late. If you can’t vote for the Dems just think of it as voting against the Status Quo or rather, think of voting against the murdering, thieving bums.

Gas Price Spike

Glad my gas tank only holds 2.5 gallons and that I get 70 mpg.  Still, it will cost us $16.00 to cut the grass tomorrow.  Let it grow,oh no.  We are going to have a better plan next year when gas could be near $7.00 per gallon.

Goats make more of a mess and do not keep the grass cut down.  I can’t see using a manual rotary push mower to cut 1.5 acres.

This guy in Saginaw, Michigan attached a bicycle to a rotary mower.  His growing season is about 70 days up there and grass is hard to grow there.  Here, in the Delta, grass grows in one day the same amount grass grows in Saginaw in a week or more.

Arizona - Bicycle Friendly State

More Arizonans are ditching gas-guzzling cars for bicycles to commute to work and for recreation.

The League of American Bicyclists named Arizona the third most bicycle-friendly state in the country for its encouragement of bicycling among riders of all ages.

States were judged on six categories that support bike use, including legislation, education and encouragement, and infrastructure.

Washington is ranked number one on the list of bicycle friendly states, followed by Wisconsin at number two.
