Passed another speed bump

Getting ready for Black Friday and then BF and Black Saturday.  Three days and 36 hours of non-stop work.  I am so sore and worn out. Ouch.  But I have a good attitude.

Cheers.

Road Trip!

Cold Week of Scooter Commuting

Wednesday it was 28 degrees on my commute in.  Today I saw ice where the road was in the shade of the trees.  I’m glad I am off to morrow to do some errands and house repair.  Saturday I have to work.  Next week is Black Friday and Saturday.  Long hard days there in the retail world.  I’ll be on the front lines instead of in front of my computer.  Oh well.  Let the silly season begin. sigh.

Zuma 125 at home

My 2005 Vespa GT 200L is still in Birmingham.  My friend Matt at Magic City Scooters has to send it over to Bogart’s Motorsports so that their Vespa technician can put it on the diagnostic machine.  More sigh.  I rode Stacy’s Vespa GT yesterday evening to run an errand and I am amazed at how much of a high performance motorcycle the GT really is.

The Zuma 125 is an awesome, fun scooter but the Vespa is a road machine.  Yum. I hope to have the green Vespa home safe in it’s stall, soon.

Gulf War Syndrome is Real. DUH!

Gulf War Syndrome affects at least one-fourth of the 700,000 U.S. troops who served in the 1991 effort to drive Iraq out of Kuwait, or between 175,000 and 210,000 veterans in all, the report found. Few have seen their symptoms improve over the past 17 years, the report said.

Symptoms include persistent headaches, widespread pain, cognitive difficulties, unexplained fatigue, skin rashes, chronic diarrhea and digestive and respiratory problems.

Many Gulf War veterans suffering these symptoms say they met with skepticism when seeking treatment.

The panel found two possible causes: a drug given to troops to protect against nerve gas, known as pyridostigmine bromide, and pesticides that were used heavily during the war.

Cool Theme hint

I read about this today:

Once you start installing new GTK themes in Ubuntu, you will notice that applications that run as root, such as the Synaptic Package Manager, look unthemed and ugly. This is because although the root user is hidden in Ubuntu, it is still technically a separate user with separate appearance settings.

Synaptic

To fix this, run these three commands in a terminal. They will cause your own theme, font, and icon preferences to always be used by the root user.

sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root/.themes
sudo ln -s ~/.icons /root/.icons
sudo ln -s ~/.fonts /root/.fonts

Leaving your root applications unthemed does an have one advantage, it reminds you when a running application has root privileges. Other than that I see no reason why this should not be the default for Ubuntu.

And Check this out too:

 sudo apt-get install community-themes
